Mossman

Gateway to the spectacular Mossman Gorge.

A short scenic drive 15 minutes north of Port Douglas will take you to Mossman, a picturesque township set amongst the cane fields and gateway to the Mossman Gorge, a stunning natural beauty in the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park.

Enjoy the friendly Mossman hospitality exploring country stores and historic pubs in the tree-lined main street. Take a guided rainforest walk with the native Kuku Yulanji indigenous people. Stop by the tropical fruit winery and sample some of the award winning mango, pineapple and passionfruit wine. During the sugar cane crushing season (June-October), the region's biggest sugar mill offer guided tours of the entire process of making sugar inside the mill.

The Whyanbeel Valley offers a stunning scenic drive through sugar cane farms, exotic fruit plantations and nurseries against the backdrop of stunning rainforest mountains and waterfalls. Stay in hidden executive homes and luxury lodges set on the banks of the Mossman River. Stroll through fruit orchards, art galleries and glass blowing studios. Have a relaxing gourmet meal in a riverside cafe or restaurant while being cooled by the refreshing breeze.

Mossman Gorge

Five minutes west of Mossman you will discover Mossman Gorge, a very accessible and scenic section of the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park. Here the Mossman River tumbles its way over and around huge granite boulders that line the gorge creating cool clear freshwater swimming holes. Awe inspiring tree-clad mountains rise sharply up from the river banks. Walk upstream as far as the suspension bridge across the river or explore the 2km rainforest loop trail.

The Mossman Gorge is home to the Kuku Yalanji people, the area's traditional Aboriginal landowners who strive to protect their natural heritage as they share its unique qualities with visitors. Guided bushwalks are available that give a rare insight into the special relationship the local indigenous people have with the rainforest, while traditional dance performances and artefact displays portray their rich cultural heritage.
